In 1958, a courageous group of African-American students peacefully occupied counter stools for nearly four weeks. This was just upstairs where Siena Tuscan Steakhouse currently resides. These young adults' fortitude achieved more than just desegregating all nine Kansas Dockum Drugstores. This movement inspired a nationwide demonstration promoting racial equality.

Today, Dockum continues to pay homage to this building's rich and beautiful history by incorporating a speakeasy-style ambiance.
